Skye Higgin

Maxavita Sponsorship

Skye is 20 years old and was a member of Sir Watkin William Wynn's Pony Club representing the branch at Area level in Tetrathlon, Eventing and Showjumping. During her school years she was a keen all-rounder, representing Shropshire in Hockey and Cross Country running. In addition to these sports she was in school teams for tennis, netball, football, rounders and athletics. Skye studied A levels on a scholarship at Millfield Sports School with the aim of competing for her country in Modern Pentathlon. This was Skye's chosen career until glandular fever and an allergy problem with swimming pool cleansers necessitated a change of plan. Skye left school with A levels in Biology and Physical Education and BHS stage 3. Skye is currently based with Dave and Shaz Quigley of Qsport Horses and has graduated to being their stable rider both at home and in competitions. She rides horses for Dave & Shaz and their owners as well as her own horses Ariva Jensma and Vigo.

April 2009 saw Skye being promoted to stable rider when Chris Smith who has represented Great Britain at under 21 level left to start up on his own. She was successful in four year old classes with Ariva Jensma and her seven year old Vigo continued to do well in classes up to 1.25m having had a very consistent 2009 Spanish Sunshine Tour.
Skye is preparing to leave for Spain in February 2010 for this years Spanish Sunshine tour. 18 show jumpers from Q Sport Horses are going on the Tour and travelling to the Show is a four day journey from Shropshire through France before finally arriving at the showground near Vejer in Spain. Skye has recently passed her HGV test and enjoys driving the huge lorries used to transport these horses. She is looking forward to competing young horses for owners of Q Sport horses as well as her own horse Vigo, who will compete at 1.30 level and a very talented 10 year old gelding who she will jump in the bigger classes.

Rider: Skye Higgin
Location: Cheshire
Type: Show Jumping
Ponies:

The dark bay horse with the star on his head is Vigo, my own 8yr old horse. He jumped the big tour international 1.40metre classes. He had regular placing and gained huge amounts of experience. I am now aiming him towards his foxhunter 2nd rounds this year and the 7/8yr old classes hoping to qualify for horse of the year show.

The bay with no markings jumping a butterfly fence is Jazzo, a horse that I jumped in the big international classes. He was placed in the top 20 horses throughout the 6weeks. Competing against some of the best horses and riders from across Europe. I am aiming him towards grand prixs this year and area trials at the county shows.

The grey horse is a 5yr old. He qualified for the 5yr old championships in Spain after winning a few of the prelimary qualifying rounds. He came 9th after jumping a nice double clear in the finals; again this was a highly competitive class so I was very pleased.
